Do I have to pay for the class upfront?

No, we ask that you pay the $50 registration fee to reserve a seat in class. The $50 fee is deducted from the total price.  We have a limited amount of room so if a class gets full, then the students that have paid the fee, will be the ones guaranteed a spot in class.

What about a payment plan?

The full balance is due before the student is scheduled to do his/her driving lessons.  There is no timetable or exact amount that you can pay at a certain time.  The sooner the balance is paid in full, the quicker the student will complete the driver education program.

What is the deadline for registering for class?

There is no deadline for registering, just remember that all students that have registered by paying the fee will be guaranteed a spot in class. If we have room in the class, we will gladly let you in, but we recommend that you try to register as early as possible.

Do we have to sign up in person?

No, all the official paperwork is filled out on the first of class.

How old do I have to be to be eligible for driver education?

You must at least 15 years of age in order to take driver education in the State of Maryland.

Do I need to have a learner's permit in order to be eligible for driver education?

No. A permit is not required in order to take the classroom, but you must have a learner's permit in order to complete the driving portion of the class. The new law became effective Oct. 1, 2008 by the State of Maryland.

Do I need to complete driver education in order to receive a learner's permit?

No. You can receive a learner's permit without any prior training. However, you must pass a written exam at the MVA. You must be at least 15 years old and 9 months in order to receive the permit.

I am over 18 years old. Do I still have to take driver education?

Yes. All new drivers must complete driver education regardless of their age.

What do the classes include?

Our MVA approved program includes 30 hours of classroom instruction coupled with 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training. 

How are the behind-the-wheel sessions scheduled?

The 6 hours of behind-the-wheel training are broken down into three 2-hour sessions. They are scheduled by appointment at the student's convenience. For example, the student will let the instructor know when it is convenient for him/her to drive. The instructor would then try to schedule the times that work for that student.

Can you pick up students for driver education?

Leasures’ Driving School does not pick up for driver’s education.

What do I need to bring to class?

Your payment (credit card payments are accepted online), a copy of your birth certificate or learner's permit, and pen & paper.

What happens if I miss a class?

The MVA requires that you complete 30 hours of classroom instruction. If you miss a class, you must make it up at a later date. Please ask the instructor when and where to make up the day or days missed.

What happens if school unexpectedly closes on a day that classroom or in-car instruction is scheduled?

Leasures’ Driving School follows the school calendar. If school is canceled due to weather or a holiday, Leasures’ Driving School will also close, and classes/in-car will be rescheduled.  Be sure to have the student ask the instructor when the day or days will be made up.

What happens if I miss a classroom session?

If you miss more than three classroom sessions, you will be required to withdraw from the current classroom session and re-enroll in the next available course.

How much does it cost to obtain a learner's permit?

The fee is $50 after you pass the permit test.

How do I obtain a driver's license in the state of Maryland?

 

1. Complete a driver education course from a certified provider such as Leasures’ Driving School.

2. Pass the MVA written law test and obtain a learner's permit.

3. Hold the learner's permit for at least 9 months and log in at least 60 hours of behind-the-wheel practice time with a mentor.

4. Pass the MVA skill exam given at one of the MVA branch offices.
